Violinist Johnny Gandelsman and pianist Ainhoa Urkijo will perform the music of Pablo Sarasate, the great Spanish violin virtuoso and composer of the Romantic period whose music was often inspired by Spanish folklore and music of the Basque country, Andalusia, Aragon, and other regions of Spain. Russian-born Gandelsman is a founding member of Brooklyn Rider, the string quartet credited by NPR as "recreating the 300-year- old form of string quartet as a vital and creative 21st-century ensemble.” Urkijo, is a native of Bilbao, Spain, and has worked with leading practitioners of Opera and Art Song throughout Europe.
